History

Amatech/Polycel’s beginnings were humble. Starting out as an idea to create a reusable container that could duplicate a cardboard box, but have it made of plastic corrugated so it could be used many times. The plastic box would knock down flat like a standard cardboard box for the return shipment so it would not take up valuable space in a truck or warehouse until it was ready to be used again.

David Amatangelo, the founder, and owner of Amatech worked on this design concept for a number of years, in 1990 he was awarded his first US Patent # 4,948,039 which allowed the container to fold down flat and eliminate the natural tendency of the plastic to spring back to its original shape. This was the concept that started Amatech/Polycel.

A simple idea to replace a paper corrugated box with a plastic reusable box and could be built the same as any paper corrugated box. This allowed companies a simple and easy way to go from an expendable container to a reusable container and not have to change anything in their system, except getting it back. This simple design allowed for substantial cost savings due to the multiple trips. Without realizing it, Amatech/Polycel was ahead of the curve on reusability and sustainability. The products were promoted primarily as a cost savings due to the many trips they were capable of making back when being “green” wasn’t even a marketing concept.

From 1990 thru the present time Amatech/Polycel has continued to grow and move into larger and larger manufacturing spaces. We currently have two manufacturing locations, one in Erie Pennsylvania, and the other in Columbus Ohio, comprising over 80,000 sq. ft.
